Small Big Gesture

Dibujá Una Sonrisa

Each one of us can help a lot with very simple actions. “Draw a Smile” proposes one day in the year so that each of us can have a small big gesture towards someone else. We do not aim at coordinating solidarity actions, nor receive or raise funds, but rather encourage this crusade so that each one evaluates, according to his/her availability of time, resources and possibilities, how to help others.  How to Help Following is a list of suggestions for those who wish to help and do not know how to do so. You will find more ideas visiting the forum of the site, a space to exchange opinions, generate joint actions, put ideas together and disseminate the solidarity spirit.

How to help

Following is a list of suggestions for those who wish to help and do not know how to do so. This tentative list only aims at triggering some ideas, and will certainly get longer as we all add imagination and endeavour to the project.

Help From Your Workplace

Recycle paper we do not use to help an institution (such as Garrahan Children’s Hospital…)
Organize a voluntary social activity with a group of colleagues
Promote and commit ourselves to Corporate Social Responsibility
Offer our professional services for free to help people in need

Help From Home

Donate clothes we do not wear
Recycle garbage (for example, take plastic bottles to the RECIDUCA bins at every COTO supermarket)
Donate food through the church or temple, to a community kitchen
Donate kitchen utensils
Donate toys or school materials

Help From School

Write letters to children of poor schools and make new friends
Organize workshops to prepare teaching materials and donate them to schools with scarce resources (for example, draw all letters of the alphabet on a cardboard to learn the ABC, same with the numbers, etc)
Organize a collection of school materials and books

Help From an NGOs or an CSO

Join an NGO (non-governmental organization) on July19th
Offer our time, talent, work or money to help an NGO
Volunteer for a specific project of an organization doing social work.
Cooperate with a church, temple or community centre

Help From Abroad

Those who wish to “Draw Smiles” in their country and find themselves abroad, may do so in a number of different ways. The most efficient one is probably raising funds.
If you organize a special event or raise funds in any other way for a specific foundation in Argentina, you can, for example, send them to such institution through Help Argentina (www.helpargentina.org), an organization channeling this type of financial aid.
